EXHIBIT 99.1
ING to appoint Andrea Cesaroni as chief risk officer
ING to appoint Andrea Cesaroni as chief risk officer
ING announced today that Andrea Cesaroni will be appointed chief risk officer of ING. Andrea has been the head of Integrated Risk at ING since 2022 and additionally took on the role as head of Risk ad interim since 24 February 2026, reporting to the CFO, when former CRO Ljiljana Čortan took on her new role as head of Wholesale Banking.
Effective 8 June 2026, Andrea will be appointed as member of the Management Board Banking. The Supervisory Board will propose to shareholders to appoint him as a member of the Executive Board of ING Group at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to be held on 31 July 2026. Upon decision by the shareholders, the appointment of Andrea to the Executive Board will be effective as of the end of the EGM. As announced earlier, Ljiljana Čortan will at the same moment step down from the Executive Board.
Andrea joined ING in 2022 as head of Integrated Risk with overall responsibility for the risk management policies, frameworks and governance, including ESG risk, risk modelling and capital adequacy process. He has also been overseeing ING’s day-to-day risk management activities as head of Risk ad interim since 24 February 2026. Andrea has over 25 years of experience in financial services and risk management. He joined ING from UniCredit, where he was head of Group Financial Risk and later head of Group Risk Models & Credit Risk Governance, where he was responsible for credit and financial risk analytics as well as group-wide credit policies and lending guidelines. Before joining UniCredit he was a consultant at Deloitte and Arthur Andersen. Andrea is Italian and holds a Bachelor’s in Economics from the University of Rome and an MBA from the University of Bologna Business School.
Steven van Rijswijk, CEO of ING, commented: “I am pleased that we have an excellent internal successor with a strong track record of leadership and execution. Andrea knows the organisation, understands the business and has extensive experience in risk management, which are essential to support our growth ambitions while staying safe and secure.”
Andrea Cesaroni said: “I’m proud to take on the role of group chief risk officer at ING. I’m grateful for the trust and support of the supervisory and management boards and colleagues across the group. I look forward to building on what’s already in place, further strengthening the risk framework and supporting ING’s strategic priorities to become the best European bank.”
The appointment of Andrea Cesaroni has been approved by the European Central Bank. Full details of the proposed appointment are included in the proxy materials for an EGM which are available on our website. Registered shareholders may attend the EGM starting at 10:00am CEST in person at the ING office at Bijlmerdreef 106, 1102 CT Amsterdam. Shareholders are advised to check the information on the website regularly for any updates, including details on admission requirements.
