Fox5 Las Vegas: Planet 13 partners with Red Cross for blood drive

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — On the heels of Governor Lombardo declaring Blood Donation Day in Nevada, Planet 13 is teaming up with the American Red Cross to fight the national supply crisis with some highly unique donor incentives. Planet 13 SuperStore is partnering with the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada to host the “Planet 13 Blood Drive - Every Drop Counts!” on Thursday, September 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. To thank community members for donating, Planet 13 is offering participants 20% off their next visit, among other incentives. The drive follows Gov. Joe Lombardo’s Sept. 4 proclamation naming Thursday Blood Donation Day in Nevada. While the national blood crisis declared in late July has eased, Red Cross officials say supplies remain vulnerable and urge donors to keep appointments. The Red Cross must collect over 13,000 daily donations nationwide to meet hospital demand, which faces seasonal disruptions from back-to-school schedules and severe weather. Organizers note that late summer and early autumn represent historically difficult times to maintain adequate blood reserves. Seasonal disruptions such as back-to-school activities and severe weather events frequently cancel planned drives or reduce overall donor turnout.
