SECURITY FEDERAL CORPORATION ANNOUNCES INCREASE IN FIRST QUARTER NET INCOME
Aiken, South Carolina (April 28, 2023) - Security Federal Corporation (the “Company”) (OTCBB: SFDL), the holding company for Security Federal Bank (the
“Bank”), today announced earnings and financial results for the quarter ended March 31, 2023.
The Company reported net income of $2.7 million, or $0.82 per share, for the quarter ended March 31, 2023 compared to $1.5 million, or $0.48 per share, for
the first quarter of 2022. The increase in net income was primarily due to an increase in net interest income.
First Quarter Financial Highlights

Net interest income increased $2.3 million, or 29.6%, to $10.2 million.

Total interest income increased $5.5 million, or 63.4%, to $14.2 million while total interest expense increased $3.2 million, or 399.9%, to $4.0 million.

Non-interest income decreased $403,000, or 15.5%, to $2.2 million.

Non-interest expense increased $436,000, or 5.1%, to $9.0 million.

Credit Quality

On January 1, 2023, the Company adopted the Current Expected Credit Losses (“CECL”) accounting standard. The transition adjustment of the
adoption of CECL included an increase in the allowance for credit losses on loans of $784,000 and an increase in the allowance for credit losses on unfunded loan commitments of $1.2 million, which is recorded in other liabilities. The
Company recorded a net decrease to retained earnings of $1.6 million as of January 1, 2023 for the cumulative effect of adopting CECL, which reflects the transition adjustments noted above, net of the applicable deferred tax assets
recorded.

The Bank recorded $165,000 in provision for credit losses on loans held for investment and an offsetting reversal of provision for unfunded
commitments resulting in a net $0 provision expense
|
|
|
for the first quarter of 2023 compared to no provision for credit losses during the first quarter of 2022.

Non-performing assets were $6.4 million at both March 31, 2023 and December 31, 2022 compared to $2.9 million at March 31, 2022.
|

|
Allowance for credit losses to gross loans was 2.07%, 2.00% and 2.17% at March 31, 2023, December 31, 2022 and March 31,
2022, respectively.
