How the flows are measured

Bought and sold are each filer's changes in its 13F common-share positions between the two quarters, priced at the security's average close over the quarter, else its quarter-end value per share; an exit is priced at the quarter before's. Options and principal amounts are left out, and a share change from a corporate action reads as a trade. Only filers with a 13F the quarter before are compared: 137 first filers, returning filers or filers under a new CIK add no flow this quarter. 127,350 trades had no price and are left out.

Holder type, client base and private funds come from each filer's current regulatory profile, never its name; style, turnover, horizon and book size are measured from its own 13F book that quarter. A security's sector is its issuer's when the quarter was computed; exchange-traded products are ETFs, ETNs and other exchange-traded listings, apart from the sectors. The % of prior book divides net flow by the compared filers' 13F common-share value the quarter before. Quarters still in their 13F filing window are not measured yet.
