How crowding is measured
Each closed quarter, every 13F filer's common-share book is folded into per-listing totals. A filer counts toward crowding when its measured turnover is high (the smaller of its buys and sells over the last four quarters is 100% or more of its average book) or when it advises private funds on Form ADV. Crowding divides those filers' shares by the company's newest cover-page shares outstanding dated by the quarter end; companies with more than one class of common stock, or whose count is in ordinary shares, are left out because their count is a different unit from one listing's shares.
