Gold Winner: Fatimetou Khairy, Director, Finance and Business Support, Tasiast

Fatimetou joined Kinross in 2018 as a Senior Financial Accountant and was soon recognized for her strong work ethic and high performance, which led to her promotion to Finance Manager. She is the first Mauritanian National to hold this prestigious position, and her continuing commitment to excellence recently earned her another promotion to Director, Finance and Business Support. Upon joining Kinross, Fatimetou was tasked with leading the site’s tax audit which had a complex history of internal and external challenges. Despite these factors, Fatimetou successfully led Tasiast’s preparation efforts, ensuring all required documents were available, audit responses were coordinated efficiently and interactions with both tax inspectors and Kinross’ Senior Leadership Team (SLT) were constructive. The process resulted in one of the best tax audit outcomes in Tasiast’s history, including the avoidance of tax adjustments, and saved the Company several millions of dollars through both immediate cash tax payments and corporate income tax exposure. While Fatimetou’s work ethic resulted in financial benefits for the Company, another key outcome from her efforts included the transformation of the Tasiast tax department. She created a strong team of finance professionals by sharing her skills, knowledge and professionalism, encouraging outperformance by example. This transformation has reshaped the perception of the site’s tax department from both the corporate and government perspectives, and has significantly enhanced our relationship with the Government of Mauritania. “Fatimetou is a highly skilled professional whose commitment to technical excellence has generated significant benefits for Kinross Tasiast.
