Kinross Tasiast strengthens safety leadership through ICAM Lead Investigator Training

Kinross Gold Corp (KGC)

This summer, Kinross Tasiast partnered with Incident Cause Analysis Method (ICAM) International to host a series of training sessions aimed at strengthening our workforces’ incident investigation capabilities to advance our proactive safety culture at Tasiast. The purpose of the training was to provide employees with advanced investigation skills to identify organizational, environmental, task-related and individual factors that occur during safety incidents to help teams understand the cause behind incidents. Employees from a diverse group of departments were identified to participate in the trainings to reaffirm our shared responsibility for safety and to highlight the importance of building safety investigation capabilities across all areas of the business. During sessions, employees developed practical skills in evidence gathering, interview techniques, cause analysis and effective recommendations aimed at preventing the recurrence of incidents while developing sustainable safety improvements. “The ICAM International trainings were an opportunity to expand our pool of ‘Lead Investigators’ to strengthen our ability to respond to incidents with consistency and a focus on continuous improvement,” said Caleb Trease, Health and Safety Manager, Tasiast. “The trainings support Kinross Tasiast’s broader objective to embed safety leadership at all levels of the organization and to ensure lessons learned are translated into meaningful actions that protect people and improve operational performance.” ICAM International is a globally recognized methodology that identifies immediate causes and organizational factors that contribute to workplace incidents. The training aims to move beyond ‘human error’ and uncover systemic root causes of incidents to prevent recurrence.
