Peak Construction: Helping to Ensure Motorist Safety During Oversized Shipments
The first superload shipments made the journey from CarWil's fabrication facility in Winnemucca to Thacker Pass in January. Regular shipments resume May 11, with approximately 100 pipe rack modules scheduled to make the trip between May and August. If you've ever watched a massive piece of industrial equipment roll slowly down a highway, flanked by escort vehicles with flashing lights, you know it's a sight worth stopping for. Construction at Thacker Pass in Humboldt County, Nevada is entering its peak activity between now and the end of 2026, marked by increased frequency of deliveries of large pieces of equipment . Specialized vendors are completing fabrication, and plant construction has progressed to allow installation of large vessels, transformers, cooling towers, conveyor belts and chemical processing equipment as well as infrastructure that was built off-site, such as pipe racks. These are the massive steel and pipe frameworks that will carry fluids through a processing plant. |

From the Comstock to Thacker Pass: Lithium Americas Helps Bring Nevada's Mining Legacy to Life
The "Nevada Mining, Then and Now" exhibit now has a permanent home at the Historic Fourth Ward School Museum in Virginia City which makes for the perfect setting for a display that traces the state's mining heritage from the Comstock era, to today’s lithium deposits shaping Nevada's future. At the heart of Lithium Americas' contribution: a sample of lithium ore sourced directly from Thacker Pass (left), and processed lithium carbonate (right) produced at the company's Technical Development Center in Reno. Built in 1876 to serve the children of Comstock-era miners, the Historic Fourth Ward School, a National Historic Landmark, is one of Nevada's most iconic landmarks. It now serves as a fitting home that tells the stories of mining's past, present, and future through exhibits like "Nevada Mining, Then and Now," where lithium from Thacker Pass now stands alongside the minerals that made Nevada the Silver State. U.S. Critical Minerals and Federal Commitment: The Department of Energy Visits Thacker Pass
Lithium Americas was pleased to host DOE EDF representatives at Thacker Pass in early March, a visit that reflects a strong partnership at work. The United States needs lithium, and Thacker Pass has it. Located in Humboldt County, Nevada, Thacker Pass is the largest known measured and indicated lithium resource in North America. For a country working to build a domestic supply chain and reduce dependence on foreign sources for critical minerals, that matters enormously. It's why the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is the primary lender for Thacker Pass. In October 2025, Lithium Americas (LAC) received the first drawdown of $435 million from a $2.23 billion loan through the DOE's Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing (ATVM) program , one of the largest federal investments in domestic critical mineral production in U.S. history. The loan reflects the DOE's confidence that Thacker Pass will enable a domestic lithium supply chain, provide essential economic |

We discovered how he got his nickname, his early connection to Bechtel and his world-class skills in a very niche sport. Where were you born and where did you grow up? I was born and raised in San Francisco, California. How did you become a Laborer? I drove a truck for 34 years and applied to be a water truck driver for a solar project around Battle Mountain. I didn't know it was a union job and this was during the pandemic, so I couldn't get my paperwork done in time. |
