ChatGPT connects to the Equibles MCP server as a plugin you add yourself — sign in over OAuth and there's no key to manage. Custom MCP plugins live behind developer mode, so this guide turns that on first.

1. Turn on developer mode

Click Developer mode at the bottom of that panel. It opens the Security and login settings; switch Developer mode on.

Developer mode is what lets you add an MCP server OpenAI hasn't reviewed. ChatGPT labels it elevated risk because the setting applies to every server you add — only add ones you trust.

2. Create the Equibles plugin

Open Plugins from the left sidebar (or go to chatgpt.com/plugins) and click the + to the right of the search box.

Fill in the New Plugin dialog:

Name — Equibles
Description (optional) — e.g. SEC filings, 13F holdings, insider trades and fundamentals
Server URL — leave the toggle on Server URL and paste:

Authentication — OAuth. ChatGPT discovers the rest; you don't need Advanced OAuth settings.
Tick I understand and want to continue, then click Create.

ChatGPT shows Add Equibles to ChatGPT — click Sign in with Equibles, then Authorize on the Equibles page. ChatGPT holds a short-lived OAuth token that refreshes itself; there is no key to copy.

The plugin then shows Connected under Settings → Plugins.

Prefer an API key? Instead of OAuth, choose No Auth and paste a URL carrying your key from /dashboard/apikeys:

4. Turn it on in the chat

Connecting the plugin is not enough on its own. ChatGPT only calls Equibles when the plugin is selected for that conversation, so do this in every new chat: click + in the composer and pick Equibles.

You can also just ask for it by name, "using Equibles, ...", which is the quicker habit and works even if you forget the + menu.

If you do neither, ChatGPT answers from its training data or from a web search, so you get numbers with no filing behind them instead of the sourced data you connected it for.

5. Test it

Ask any of these:

Build a management accountability scorecard showing what was promised, delivered, missed, or is too early to judge; compare prior guidance with filed results; flag achievements that exceeded or were not foreshadowed by management's prior outlook; explain changes in tone and priorities; and cite every conclusion. Troubleshooting

No + button on the Plugins page?

That button only appears once developer mode is on — see step 1. Reload the page after switching it on.

Plugin not appearing in a chat?

Reload ChatGPT and pick Equibles from the composer's + menu for that conversation; re-add it under Settings → Plugins if it's missing.

ChatGPT answers without Equibles data?

If the numbers look plausible but no tool call is shown, it's answering from training data or from a web search. Select Equibles in the composer's + menu for that conversation, and start the prompt with "using Equibles, ...". A plugin connected under Settings is not automatically active in a chat.

Access denied?

Open the plugin under Settings → Plugins, click Disconnect, then sign in again. If you're using a key, re-copy it from /dashboard/apikeys. If you're over your daily limit, see Rate limits.
