First, let me provide an overview of the business environment.

Looking back over the past three months, tensions in the Middle East have remained high since late February, amid military confrontations involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. As a result, uncertainty related to energy prices, the availability of raw materials, and the outlook for global supply chains has increased further.

Regarding the fourth quarter specifically, we believe that the impact of these geopolitical tensions on our business was limited and not sustainable at this stage. However, should the situation persist, it could potentially affect our customers’ production activities as well as shipment volumes across the Group. We will continue to closely monitor developments.

Despite this challenging environment, by continuing to rigorously implement price management and operational excellence across all regions and businesses, we were able to improve both our core operating margin and EBITDA margin in the fourth quarter, compared with the same period last year and the previous quarter. Overall, we view the fourth quarter as a relatively solid one for the Group. Details by region and business segment will be explained later by our CFO, Mr. Kubo. Turning to performance highlights, profitability improved across the Group, and on a quarterly basis, both core operating margin and EBITDA margin reached their highest levels to date.

In the United States, profitability had deteriorated significantly in the first half of the previous fiscal year, but improved in the second half, particularly in the fourth quarter. Although severe cold weather in January caused widespread disruptions across industries and prevented a full recovery in volumes, our continued execution of pricing measures and rigorous cost control led to a meaningful recovery in February and March. In addition, the higher number of operating days and the timing of certain adjustments in the fourth quarter provided a tailwind to results.

Going forward, we will continue to focus on sustained profitability improvements through the full-scale ramp-up of on-site projects, ongoing price management, cost control, and initiatives to enhance productivity. In addition, as mentioned earlier, equipment construction projects in Japan made a significant contribution to fourth-quarter results. In the United States, several large on-site projects also began operations, contributing partially to full-year results and supporting performance in the fourth quarter.

Next, I would like to touch on capital investment. In the fiscal year ended March 2026, taking into account the global environment, we carefully assessed customers’ production and investment plans before executing capital expenditures. In the first quarter of the previous fiscal year, uncertainty surrounding the potential impact of U.S. tariff policies led us to significantly restrain capital investment. Investment levels gradually recovered in the second and third quarters, and rebounded in the fourth quarter. However, on a full-year basis, capital expenditures remained below the level of the previous fiscal year, amounting to ¥109.1 billion. Meanwhile, investments and loans totaled ¥99.8 billion, mainly reflecting the acquisition of an industrial gas business in Australia and the completion of the acquisition of a homecare business in Spain. Capital investment remains essential for expanding our gas production and supply capabilities. While rigorously managing investment risks, we will continue to pursue growth opportunities proactively, maintaining our fundamental stance toward disciplined yet growth-oriented investment. Details on our capital expenditure backlog will be provided later.

PMI(ポスト・マージャー・インテグレーション)を着実に進め、スペインのホームケア市場

Finally, I would like to highlight a few topics. We have completed the acquisition of all shares of Esteve Teijin Healthcare, which operates a homecare business in Spain. Although its contribution to European results in the fourth quarter was limited due to timing, we expect a full-year contribution from this fiscal year onward. We will focus on smooth postmerger integration to strengthen our presence in the Spanish homecare market.

In addition, at the end of March, we held a briefing on our new medium-term management plan, titled “Next Innovation 2030.” Thank you to those who participated. As this new plan has just begun, we will continue to pursue further growth of the Group by executing our key strategic initiatives. On May 22, we plan to hold a results briefing to explain the full-year results of the completed fiscal year as well as the concrete plans for the first year of the new medium-term management plan. We look forward to your participation.

Next, I would like to explain our future capital investment execution plan.

As in previous presentations, this slide shows the composition of our capital expenditure backlog by customer industry.

As of March 31, 2026, our capital expenditure backlog stood at approximately JPY 180 billion, representing an increase of about JPY 30 billion compared with the end of the third quarter. While the number of completed projects and newly added projects was broadly similar when focusing on large-scale investments, the increase in the backlog was mainly attributable to the large size of newly added projects.

Please note that the scope of the backlog shown on this slide includes projects with an investment amount of JPY 500 million or more, and does not include smaller-scale projects.

That concludes my remarks.

I would now like to hand over to our CFO, Mr. Kubo, who will provide a detailed explanation of the financial results.

This is Kubo, CFO. Thank you very much for joining us today. I will now provide an overview of the fourth-quarter performance, followed by the full-year results, and then discuss our earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2027.

Please refer to page 9 of the materials. For the fourth quarter (January–March 2026), revenue amounted to JPY 361.8 billion, representing an increase of 7.5% year-on-year, or 1.5% excluding the impact of foreign exchange. As shown on the right-hand side of the slide, in addition to a positive 5.9% impact from foreign exchange translation, revenue growth was supported by price management initiatives and contributions from acquisitions in Oceania. On the other hand, pass-through and surcharge adjustments had a negative impact of 0.9%, and shipment volumes were broadly in line with the same period last year. Core operating income was JPY 56.8 billion, representing an increase of JPY 7.5 billion, or 15.2% year-onyear. Excluding foreign exchange effects, core operating income increased by 8.1%. Through continued efforts in price management and productivity improvement, the core operating margin improved by 100 basis points, from 14.7% to 15.7%.

EBITDA margin also exceeded the final-year KPI target of 24% under the previous medium-term management plan, reaching 24.9%, an improvement of 150 basis points year-on-year. We believe we were able to steadily enhance profitability despite the lack of volume growth.

Further details are provided on page 29. Non-recurring items totaled JPY 5.0 billion, primarily reflecting provisions related to business restructuring in the United States, as well as costs associated with brand integration and the renaming of operating companies from April 2026 onward.

Next, I will explain the fourth-quarter results by segment. Please refer to page 10 for Japan.

Revenue in Japan for the fourth quarter was JPY 110.9 billion, representing a decrease of approximately JPY 3.3 billion, or 2.9% year-on-year. While price management initiatives and sales of electronic material gases remained solid, the decline was mainly due to lower gas shipment volumes and reduced revenue from equipment and construction projects. The impact of foreign exchange was minimal. Segment income amounted to JPY 15.0 billion, an increase of JPY 2.2 billion, or 17.5% year-on-year. This improvement was driven by strong profitability in electronics-related equipment and construction projects, as well as ongoing productivity improvement initiatives and price management. The impact of foreign exchange on segment income was also minimal.

Next, please refer to page 11 for the United States business.

Revenue in the U.S. for the fourth quarter was JPY 95.2 billion, representing an increase of JPY 5.2 billion, or 5.8% year-on-year.

Although shipment volumes of products declined compared with the same period last year, revenue increased due to the strong execution of price management initiatives, as well as contributions from equipment-related sales. Foreign exchange had a positive impact of approximately JPY 3.1 billion on revenue. Excluding this effect, revenue still increased by JPY 2.2 billion, or 2.4%. On the other hand, segment income was JPY 15.8 billion, a decrease of JPY 1.7 billion, or 9.9% year-onyear. Excluding a positive foreign exchange impact of approximately JPY 0.4 billion, segment income declined by JPY 2.2 billion, or 12.3%. While productivity improvement initiatives and price management contributed positively, the decrease in product shipment volumes was the primary factor behind the decline in profit.

In addition to the foreign exchange impact, revenue growth was supported by price management initiatives, as well as higher sales from medical-related equipment and installation, and increased revenue at an engineering company in Italy. Segment income amounted to JPY 19.1 billion, an increase of JPY 4.0 billion, or 26.5% year-on-year. Of this increase, JPY 2.4 billion was attributable to foreign exchange effects. Excluding this impact, segment income increased by JPY 1.7 billion, or 9.9%. This improvement was mainly driven by price management and productivity enhancement initiatives.

The increase was driven primarily by contributions from the industrial gas business in Oceania acquired in the previous fiscal year, as well as the steady recovery in shipment volumes of electronic material gases.

Segment income amounted to JPY 4.8 billion, an increase of JPY 2.7 billion, or 122.4% year-on-year. Foreign exchange had a positive impact of approximately JPY 0.6 billion; excluding this effect, segment income increased by JPY 2.1 billion, or 85.2%.

Revenue amounted to JPY 8.5 billion, representing an increase of approximately JPY 0.5 billion, or 5.6% year-on-year. The impact of foreign exchange was minimal. Now, please turn back to page 23. I will explain our full-year earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2027. While the global economic outlook remains highly uncertain, we have assumed exchange rates of JPY 150 per U.S. dollar and JPY 175 per euro, based on the average rates in the previous fiscal year of JPY 151.09 and JPY 175.58, respectively. Under these assumptions, we forecast revenue of JPY 1.38 trillion, core operating income of JPY 208.0 billion, and a core operating margin of 15.1%, representing an improvement of 20 basis points from 14.9% in the previous fiscal year. Excluding the impact of foreign exchange, this corresponds to expected growth of 1.8% in revenue and 2.8% in core operating income year-on-year. While we are not providing a breakdown by segment, we expect profit growth in all segments except Japan. In addition, EBITDA margin is expected to be 25.1%. To achieve our medium-term management plan, “Next Innovation 2030 – Evolving for the Future,” which commenced in April, we will continue to strengthen the profitability of our industrial gas business through price management and productivity improvement initiatives. At the same time, we will focus on expanding our electronics business, where further growth is expected, and on creating new growth drivers.

す。

We will also pursue proactive investments that contribute to enhancing corporate value, thereby improving shareholder value over the medium to long term.

We will now take questions in the order received until the scheduled end time. BofA Securities, Mr. Enomoto, please go ahead.

Enomoto [Q]: This is Enomoto from BofA Securities. I have three questions.

First, regarding page 7 of the materials, the investment order backlog of JPY 180 billion is quite a large and notable figure. You mentioned that this includes large-scale projects—could you please elaborate on the nature of these projects? That is my first question.

Hamada [A]: Thank you very much.

While there are some projects whose names I can disclose and others I cannot, let me highlight several major projects that contributed to the increase compared with the previous quarter.

First, in Japan, we have started a carbon dioxide production plant project. In the United States, as I mentioned previously, we are building a new air separation unit (ASU) in Las Vegas. In Europe, we have a project to launch a new CO2 production plant, and in Norway, an ASU project related to fish farming operations. In the Asia-Oceania region, in Korea, this is our own facility, and we are expanding a new material gas production site. In the Philippines, we also have several projects to launch new ASUs. Many of these projects are large in scale, with individual projects exceeding JPY 20 billion or at times JPY 10 billion. When accumulated, these resulted in a total order backlog of approximately JPY 180 billion. As I mentioned earlier, some projects have been completed and therefore removed from the backlog. However, the addition of these large-scale projects has led to the current level.

Enomoto [Q]: My second question relates to the plan for this fiscal year.

How have you incorporated the impact of the Middle East situation into your forecast for the new fiscal year? I understand that there has been no impact on your results so far, but I would like to ask about your outlook for the new fiscal year.

Kubo [A]: Thank you very much for your question.

When considering the impact of the situation in the Middle East on our business, the first point is cost, particularly electricity expenses, which account for a significant portion of our gas production costs. We do expect some increase in costs.

However, under our previous medium-term management plan, we have achieved solid results in pricing. Therefore, we are basically assuming that cost increases to be offset through appropriate pricing measures and pass-through. Another potential impact is the risk that demand for our gases may decline in the industries of our customers. On this point, we conducted interviews with our operating companies last month, and at present, we have not observed any significant signs of such a trend overall.

We believe this is because our gases are essential in customers’ manufacturing processes. As we formulate our budget, we have not identified any negative impact on customer industries, and based on these assumptions, we have developed our earnings forecast for this fiscal year. That concludes my explanation.

Enomoto [Q]: Just to confirm, is it correct to understand that there is essentially no impact from the Middle East situation?

Hamada [A]: This is Hamada. Let me add a few supplementary comments.

At this point, frankly speaking, we do not yet know whether the situation in the Middle East will have a tangible impact. There have been various statements from the Japanese government, and we are also making our assessments based on information from companies in the chemical industry, including discussions I had today. If oil supply were to be disrupted for six to seven months, the supply chain itself could be restructured. While it is unlikely that supplies would completely cease, we cannot rule out a reduction in volume, which in turn could force our customers to lower their operating rates. However, such scenarios are generally being discussed by industry participants on the assumption that the situation persists for more than six months. From this perspective, we do not expect any immediate direct impact on our business, but much depends on how long the situation continues.

Currently, the Japanese government has been making various statements, and there are considerable amount of inventories within the supply chain, including petroleum-related intermediate and logistics inventories, partly, I believe, due to the length of the supply chain. If concerns about shortages of crude oil or naphtha intensify, companies may begin to build up inventories, and such stockpiling behavior could ultimately lead to shortages across the supply chain. This behavior will be the most considerable problem and will lead to shortage of goods to make the economy standstill. On the other hand, if inventories are gradually drawn down and oil and naphtha continue to be supplied, even if volumes decline somewhat, raw materials will not suddenly drop to zero. While electricity costs may rise, power supply can be supported not only by thermal generation but also potentially by a recovery in nuclear power generation.

Taking these factors into account, and as mentioned earlier, we believe that there will likely be little to no impact over the next six months or so. Beyond that timeframe, however, we have to say that the outlook remains uncertain.

Enomoto [Q]: Thank you very much.

Lastly, I would like to ask about semiconductor-related inquiries. The semiconductor market has been quite strong recently. How is this affecting your business? Specifically, how are you seeing demand for areas such as plant equipment and electronic material gases? How are these trends reflected in your business plan for this fiscal year, and what is the current situation? That is all.

Hamada [A]: Thank you very much.

As you pointed out, the semiconductor market is very strong, and we are actively responding to projects in Hokkaido, including construction work for large-scale upcoming plants. In addition, new semiconductor plant projects are emerging in areas such as Hiroshima and Kumamoto, which have also been reported in the media.

These opportunities are not unique to us, as many companies are competing for them. However, we are selectively pursuing projects where we can expect strong profitability and where our technologies are highly valued. As a result, we remain very busy with facility construction projects for semiconductor plants in this fiscal year. Regarding electronic material gases, as mentioned earlier, our Korean subsidiary has begun full-scale construction of a new production plant at a new site. This is being carried out based on concrete plans from Korean customers, including those operating in China. In the United States as well, our semiconductor-related gases produced in New Johnsonville are seeing strong demand. Leveraging our global supply network, we intend to proactively respond to growing demand for semiconductor material gases.

As for Taiwan, where we have not previously had manufacturing facilities, how to address this market is a more complex topic. Nevertheless, we are focusing on this area and will continue to examine and pursue appropriate initiatives going forward.

Enomoto [Q]: Thank you very much.

Ishimoto [M]: Thank you, Mr. Enomoto.

ます。

Next, CLSA Securities, Mr. Cho, please go ahead.

Zhang [Q]: This is Cho from CLSA Securities. I have two questions.

First, I would appreciate an update on the helium situation.

My understanding is that you procure most of your helium from North America, so the impact may be limited. However, could you clarify whether the current helium situation is positive or negative for your company, and whether helium supply is sufficient for semiconductor applications?

I would appreciate it if you could provide an organized update on the current situation. That is my first question. Hamada [A]: Regarding helium, as discussed when we presented our medium-term management plan, our main source of supply is the United States. Therefore, at this point, we do not see any significant impact on our helium supply. However, it is also true that some gas suppliers are facing disruptions due to factors such as restricted passage through the Strait of Hormuz or potential damage to facilities in Qatar. At present, we are not proactively taking specific actions toward those situations.

On the demand side, helium demand expanded significantly at one point, then declined due to supply constraints, and has more recently stabilized at a certain level. It is in this context that the current Middle East situation has emerged. If the situation were to be prolonged, there is a possibility that it could develop into a more serious issue.

For example, given that we have secured supply sources, we may receive requests from other gas companies or end-users asking for support. However, our capacity to respond is limited. ただし、当社としても無制限に対応できるわけではなく、ヘリウムの需給バランス demand balance for helium has changed significantly compared with three to four years ago, and supply は 3〜4 年前と比較して大きく変化しており、供給余力は十分とは言えません。このため、当社は日本国 is no longer abundant. As a result, we are currently prioritizing supply to our existing customers in Japan and across our global operations. It is difficult at this stage to clearly state whether we could significantly 既存顧客への供給を大きく削減し reduce allocations to existing customers in order to support additional demand elsewhere.

In addition, we do not have full visibility into the level of inventories held by other gas suppliers or by customers, including those in the semiconductor and fiber industries. Therefore, we currently lack sufficient information to accurately assess when supply shortages might materialize or how severe they could become.

4091) |Nippon Sanso Holdings Corporation (Ticker: 4091.T)

17

Accordingly, while it is difficult to provide a definitive outlook at this time, we expect that more concrete information will emerge if the current situation persists. Based on that, we will respond where possible, while carefully determining where support may not be feasible.

Zhang [Q]: Thank you for the detailed explanation.

ます。

My second question is about the situation in Japan, as well as Asia and Australia.

In Japan, margins increased significantly quarter-on-quarter in the January–March period. Previously, you had explained that from the second half of last year, margins in Japan were expected to decline from the first half to the second half due to the completion of deliveries of certain semiconductor-related equipment. However, the actual results for January–March were quite strong. Could you explain the factors behind this strength? Also, how should we expect the Japan segment to trend going into the April– June period? In addition, regarding Asia and Australia, margins appear to have declined slightly on a QoQ basis. Could you also elaborate on the situation from January–March through the current period, including April? That is all.

Hamada [A]: Thank you for the question.

Regarding Japan, the situation is relatively straightforward, whereas conditions in Asia vary significantly by country, so I will ask Mr. Kubo to provide further details on Asia.

In Japan, gas demand is neither growing significantly nor declining sharply; rather, it remains in a relatively balanced state. At the same time, we anticipate rising costs, including raw materials, logistics, and labor, driven by inflation. Accordingly, it is necessary for us to continue implementing pricing measures to adjust gas prices. In this regard, our pricing initiatives over the past one to two years have been very successful. This success reflects not only price increases themselves, but also our ability to gain customer acceptance for our commitment to providing a reliable supply of high-quality products.

To ensure reliable supply, we must continue investing in facilities, renewing equipment, and maintaining a robust logistics network. Through close communication of these efforts with our customers, we have gained acceptance for price revisions across a wide range of industries, including electronics. At the same time, we recognize that our responsibility to ensure reliable supply has correspondingly increased.

Looking ahead, while it is uncertain whether gas demand in Japan will grow significantly, we expect overall demand to remain solid. We will continue our pricing initiatives to maintain and enhance profitability, thereby strengthening our business foundation over the medium-to long term.

As for Asia, since conditions differ by country, I would like to invite Mr. Kubo to elaborate.

Kubo [A]: Regarding Asia and Oceania, as you pointed out, the segment margin for the fourth quarter declined slightly. It decreased from 10.7% in the third quarter to around 9% in the fourth quarter.

In terms of the core business, as mentioned earlier, revenue—particularly from electronics-related customers in East Asia—remained very strong and contributed positively to the underlying performance. On the cost side, however, we recorded acquisition-related expenses in Australia during the fourth quarter, and we also incurred certain one-off costs in other parts of Asia. These factors led to a decline in the segment margin compared with the previous quarter. Regarding the Coregas acquisition, which was completed in July, its performance has been reflected in our results for three quarters (Q2 through Q4). Coregas itself has been performing steadily and in line with our expectations. Therefore, the decline in profit and margin at the segment level is primarily attributable to acquisitionrelated expenses and one-off costs.

That concludes my explanation.

Yamada [Q]: This is Yamada from Mizuho Securities.

For my first question, based on your earlier explanation, you indicated that profits are expected to increase in all regions except Japan for this fiscal year. Could you please elaborate on the reasons why Japan is excluded from this growth outlook?

In particular, regarding core operating profit for the fiscal year ending March 2027, although segment details are not disclosed, it was explained that profits will increase outside Japan. I would appreciate it if you could provide more details behind this assumption.

Hamada [A]: Perhaps Mr. Kubo can provide further details but let me first explain the situation in Japan.

In Japan, there were certain semiconductor-related construction projects that made a very significant contribution, and their impact was particularly large. The question is whether these large-scale projects should be treated as a baseline going forward. As mentioned earlier, we continue to see strong inquiries and a pipeline of construction projects. However, we are cautious about whether it is appropriate to evaluate the whole, including such exceptional largescale contributions. As a result, our view is that growth metrics in Japan, including CAGR, may differ from those of other regions.

For the rest of the business, we expect performance to remain very solid from the fourth quarter onward.

In addition to pricing initiatives, we also expect productivity improvement efforts, including operational excellence programs, to begin contributing more meaningfully in the fiscal year ending March 2027. While there are some one-off and temporary factors, excluding these, the rest of the business is expected to deliver stable earnings contributions in the fiscal year ending March 2027.

Yamada [Q]: I understand that the strong performance in Japan for the fiscal year ended March 2026 was driven by equipment, construction, and electronics-related businesses, and that electronics accounted for 31% of revenue for the full year. Based on your earlier explanation, I had the impression that this strong momentum could continue for several years.

While the long-term outlook remains positive, should we understand that the fiscal year ending March 2027 may represent something of a transitional or interim year over the next two to three years?

Hamada [A]: That is indeed a difficult question.

Returning to semiconductor-related construction, we do expect this area to continue expanding. However, projects such as those in Hokkaido and Kumamoto (although we did not acquire the Kumamoto project entirely) were extremely large in scale. We do not expect projects of a similar magnitude to emerge one after another.

It is likely that there will be projects such as the construction of additional buildings. Also, while I cannot mention specific company names, in the case of memory manufacturers in Japan, the main structures of large facilities have been completed in general, and going forward, we expect continued demand for installation work and production line modifications within those facilities. This is supported by strong semiconductor demand driven by AI and data centers, which we believe will continue for the next two to three years. However, we do not foresee a steady stream of large-scale projects like the one we undertook in Hokkaido, where everything was built from scratch.

Yamada [Q]: I see. So while memory cleanroom capacity is expected to increase globally, from the perspective of construction projects in Japan, the situation is somewhat different—would that be a correct understanding?

Hamada [A]: Yes, that is correct.

This may be an additional comment, but Taiwanese manufacturers operate globally and consider investments in various locations, including the United States. In some cases, they conclude that projects can be completed more quickly in Japan.

As a result, we expect an increasing number of projects where facilities are built adjacent to existing, welldeveloped infrastructure in Japan. This is supported by Japan’s strong ecosystem, including highly capable semiconductor equipment manufacturers, as well as reliable suppliers of chemicals, water, and industrial gases. Considering this infrastructure, Japan is becoming an increasingly attractive location for investments aimed at rapid rampup. In fact, Taiwanese manufacturer is making such assessments, and we therefore expect investment in Japan to continue. In some cases, projects that were initially considered for other regions, such as the United States, may shift to Japan.

Yamada [Q]: Understood. With construction costs continuing to rise in the U.S., I personally have positive expectations for your business in Japan. My second question is about Thermos. I understand that its performance has undergone some adjustments. For the new fiscal year, should we expect a recovery driven by factors such as new product launches and operational excellence initiatives? I would appreciate it if you could provide some details on the current situation, even if at a granular level.

On the cost side, improving operational efficiency through the use of digital technologies is a key priority. This has already been incorporated as part of our DX initiatives in the previous medium-term management plan. In addition, we have manufacturing bases overseas, and while we aim to steadily grow the top line, we also intend to improve profitability. Although equity method income currently makes a certain level of contribution, we are working to enhance profitability in other areas as well.

In the previous fiscal year, the U.S. business faced some challenges, partly due to the impact of extreme cold weather. I understand that you mentioned enhancing operational excellence initiatives to improve performance in North America.

Given that only about a month has passed for this fiscal year, I would assume it is still early to discuss progress. However, could you elaborate on how these improvements are reflected in your plan for this fiscal year? Should we expect the improvement in the U.S. to be driven mainly by efficiency gains, or does your plan also assume top-line growth? Alternatively, are efficiency improvements expected to contribute more from the next fiscal year onward?

I would appreciate it if you could share your overall view.

Hamada [A]: Regarding Matheson in the United States, we have appointed a new president. While our fundamental initiatives, such as operational excellence and pricing remain unchanged, we have recognized that management had previously been somewhat overly centralized at the top. This is a view that we have shared internally, and the new president, Mr. Alan Draper, holds the same perspective.

We believe that by more effectively and promptly leveraging the capabilities, expertise, and know-how of our EVPs and SVPs across manufacturing and sales sites, we can further enhance the profitability of the Matheson business. In the short term, it is possible to improve performance through measures such as postponing maintenance or optimizing logistics. Based on my own experience in the U.S., such actions can indeed produce visible results. However, these approaches may negatively affect employee morale and motivation, or delay necessary initiatives, which could in turn weaken growth momentum six months to a year later.

With this in mind, the new president has, over the past month, outlined and begun implementing a series of concrete actions. We have high expectations for the future development of the Matheson business. In addition, the new president has experience overseeing our European operations as well as working in Japan with a global perspective. As we move forward with our operational excellence initiatives globally, we expect Matheson to be one of our operating companies to take a leading role in driving these efforts across the group. Yamada [Q]: Mr. Alan Draper is an American who has successfully led operations in Europe, and we have high expectations for his ability to rebuild the business in the United States. Thank you.

Ishimoto [M]: Thank you, Mr. Yamada.

Next, Morgan Stanley MUFG Securities, Mr. Watanabe, please go ahead.

Watanabe [Q]: This is Watanabe from Morgan Stanley. I have two brief questions.

First, regarding the margin in the fourth quarter. The core operating margin came in at 15.7%, and based on the trend since Q1, I understand that your original expectation for Q4 was around 15%, so the actual result appears to have outperformed your guidance.

Could you clarify whether this level should be viewed as your underlying earning capability, or whether it includes one-off factors? In particular, I would appreciate it if you could explain how this Q4 margin compares with the normalized level across each segment.

Hamada [A]: Mr. Kubo will provide further details shortly, but let me first comment on this. As mentioned earlier, in Japan, semiconductor-related construction projects made a significant contribution, and these project-related factors supported the higher margin as a one-off element.

Therefore, we do not view this level as fully sustainable, and this has been taken into account in our outlook. On the other hand, across our other operating companies, initiatives to steadily grow core operating income (COI) are progressing. While we had expected Asia to be relatively challenging, when viewed together with Oceania, the business in Australia has expanded and reached a scale that can be considered a core industrial gas platform.

Accordingly, across our operating companies, we are seeing progress in building a solid business foundation that goes beyond one-off factors, which we believe will support further improvements in profitability going forward.

With that, I would like to invite Mr. Kubo to provide more detailed comments.

Kubo [A]: Let me add a few supplementary comments.

As mentioned earlier, Japan was one of the key contributors to the increase in overall profitability in the fourth quarter. In addition, the U.S. business also contributed to the improvement. The segment margin in the U.S. increased from around 15% in the third quarter to 16.6% in the fourth quarter. This was driven by a reduction in fixed costs and logistics costs compared with the previous quarter, as well as contributions from new contracts that began to take effect in Q4. In Europe, margins remained stable at around 20%, consistent with the previous quarter, and we do not see any significant one-off factors affecting performance in the fourth quarter. As for Asia and Oceania, as noted earlier, margins declined in the fourth quarter due to one-off acquisitionrelated costs. However, from the perspective of revenue quality and earnings stability, the Coregas acquisition in Australia has strengthened our ability to generate stable profits going forward.

In addition, the contribution from the electronics segment was high in the fourth quarter, and if current conditions continue, we expect this to remain a positive contributor from the first quarter onward in the new fiscal year.

That concludes my comments.

Watanabe [Q]: Thank you very much.

My second question is about equipment and construction projects in Japan.

While the results show a relatively high margin, one interpretation is that you have been able to secure high-margin projects. On the other hand, there may also be an element related to project accounting— such as contracts accounted for under the percentage-of-completion method—where profitability turned out to be higher upon project completion.

4091) |Nippon Sanso Holdings Corporation (Ticker: 4091.T)

In this context, could you also explain the types of contract structures you typically use? For example, are lump-sum contracts more common, or do you have a higher proportion of cost-reimbursable contracts?

In addition, I would appreciate your comments on whether you intend to maintain a similar approach going forward with respect to equipment and construction projects in Japan.

Hamada [A]: Mr. Kubo will provide more detailed explanations shortly, but let me first address this point.

For projects of this scale, accounting is carried out under the percentage-of-completion method. In particular, for the Hokkaido project, in addition to this accounting approach, we have been able to secure additional orders while construction is ongoing and execute them in an integrated manner. As a result, it is not a process where we complete a project, withdraw, and then re-enter for a new one. We believe this continuity has been one of the factors enabling us to execute projects smoothly and efficiently. In addition, proper cost management at the site level, including supervision, has contributed to the improvement in profitability during the fiscal year. At present, we have not seen a significant impact, but there is a possibility that rising material costs due to inflation could affect projects going forward. As for contract structures, these cannot be determined unilaterally by us, and we will need to carefully decide them through discussions with customers.

With that, I would like to invite Mr. Kubo to provide further details.

Kubo [A]: Let me add a supplementary comment.

Regarding the nature of our construction projects, as you pointed out, there are two types: large-scale projects accounted for under the percentage-of-completion method, and smaller projects where revenue is recognized upon completion. In terms of the number of projects, those accounted for under the completion method represent the majority. Looking ahead, as we aim to expand our electronics business, we expect that reletively large size of individual projects may increase to some extent. However, the core of our equipment and construction business will continue to consist primarily of projects accounted for under the completion method, where costs are accumulated and revenue is recognized within one year. Therefore, we do not expect a significant change in the overall business mix. That said, compared with the gas business, equipment and construction projects inherently involve greater fluctuations depending on order intake. Nevertheless, we believe that the overall structure of the business will remain largely unchanged going forward. That concludes my comments.

Watanabe [Q]: I have one follow-up question.

In that context, is it correct to understand that, through cost control efforts such as operational excellence initiatives, actual costs came in below the original estimates, resulting in a significant uplift in profit, particularly in the final quarter when the project was completed?

I would appreciate your confirmation on this point.

Kubo [A]: Operational excellence is not limited to production sites or logistics; it is an initiative implemented across our entire group on a cross-functional basis.

Accordingly, even for projects accounted for under the percentage-of-completion method, we manage costs in line with this operational excellence framework. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that these efforts have also contributed to the results in the fourth quarter.

That concludes my comments.
