Iamgold Corp (IAG)

Côté Gold’s Gisele Uwase Shares Her Career Journey at Jill of All Trades Earlier this spring, in Sudbury, young women gathered at Cambrian College’s Jill of All Trades event to explore opportunities in the skilled trades through hands-on learning, interactive workshops and conversations with industry professionals. Among the highlights was a keynote address by Gisele Uwase, Mining Engineering Technologist at Côté Gold and a former Cambrian student, who returned to share her personal journey and perspective on building a career in mining. A pathway shaped by persistence  Speaking to students in Grades 10–12, Gisele shared an honest account of her path; one that was not linear, but shaped by perseverance, adaptability and a willingness to keep moving forward.  From beginning her studies at Laurentian University, to stepping away due to financial challenges, to gaining hands-on experience at mine sites where she was first introduced to the industry, Gisele spoke openly about the experiences that helped her shape her career. It was during her time at Cambrian College that she found her direction in mining. Today, she is proud to be working at IAMGOLD’s Côté Gold Mine. “Starting over isn’t failing,  and your path doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful.”  — Gisele Uwase, Mining Engineering Technologist at Côté Gold A message grounded in resilience Gisele’s message focused on growth, resilience and self-belief: “Starting over isn’t failing, and your path doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful.”  Her words reflected a reality many students face as they consider their next steps, reinforcing that career paths are not always straightforward. Connecting education with real-world experience Events like Jill of All Trades play an important role in helping young women explore career pathways and connect with professionals working in the field. Through hands-on activities and direct engagement, participants gain a better understanding of the options available to them.  Gisele’s participation contributed to that experience by offering a practical, real-world perspective and helping to connect classroom learning with industry experience.  Supporting future talent Côté Gold was proud to support and participate in the Jill of All Trades event as part of its broader commitment to community engagement and the development of future talent.
