Item 5.02     Departure of Directors or Certain Officers; Election of Directors; Appointment of Certain Officers; Compensatory Arrangements of Certain Officers.

Retirement of Executive Officer. On March 4, 2022, Lonna L. Wiersma, Senior Vice President and Human Resource Director of Mercantile Bank Corporation and its wholly-owned banking subsidiary, Mercantile Bank, retired. Mercantile is grateful to Ms. Wiersma for the 23 years of exemplary service she has rendered to the organization.

Brett Hoover, 51, will fill the role of Human Resource Director of Mercantile Bank. Mr. Hoover has been an employee of Mercantile Bank for over 15 years and executive management believes he is well suited for this new role.
